If you are planning on delivering at NSFS Hospital, we have assembled a team of laborists who have dedicated their careers exclusively to the care of women in labor.
Dr. Dominik Kissing
Dr. Dominik Kissing graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Cologne Medical School. He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. He did further fellowship training at the University Hospital in Dusseldorf and Duren, Germany. He is married with two children.
Dr. Demetria Aaron
Dr. Aaron a native of Georgia graduated Magna Cum Laude from Xavier University of Louisiana. She earned her medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine. She began her active duty career while in obgyn residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Her career with the Navy has taken her to Naples, Italy and later to the Naval Medical Center at Camp Lejeune where she served as chair of the Perinatal Advisory Board.
Dr. Aaron was a part of the medical team aboard the USNS Comfort in support of Continuing Promise in 2011 and was a Women’s Health Subject Matter Expert for Pacific Partnership in 2014. Dr. Aaron continues to serve in the US Navy Reserves. She is an avid photographer who enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, and shopping.
Dr. Asa Peek
Dr. Asa Peek a Georgia native graduated from the University of Georgia in 1993, He then attended the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences where he received a Doctor of Osteopathy degree. After completing his residency at East Tennessee State University, he returned to his home town of Rome when he established himself in private practice. For the past three years, he was worked exclusively as a hospitalist specializing in the care of women during labor and delivery as well as providing emergency gynecologic care.
Dr. Laura Gibbs
Dr. Laura Gibbs a native of Georgia, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 2003. In 2007, Dr. Gibbs received her Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia where she remained to do her residency. Dr. Gibbs is an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoys traveling and gardening in her free time.
Dr. Joel Higgins
Dr. Joel Higgins, a Georgia native received a bachelor of engineering science and mechanics degree from Georgia Tech. He attended medical school at the University of South Carolina and returned to Georgia for residency training in gynecology and obstetrics at Emory University. When not at work Dr Higgins enjoys spending time with family, attending his church and watching football.
Our Nurse Midwives
Heather Harner CNM
Heather graduated from the University of Cincinnati Midwifery program. Prior to becoming a midwife she worked as a Labor & Delivery nurse at Northside Hospital in Atlanta for 5 years. This is where she discovered a passion for midwifery. Heather and her husband have a daughter, Ana and a rescue fur-baby, Hank.
Barbora Snuggs CNM
Barbora was born in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the United States at 10 years of age. She obtained her nursing degree from Kennesaw State University in 1995. After working for many years as a nurse in Labor & Delivery, she continued her education at Emory University, completing her Master’s degree in midwifery in 2005. She is currently in the process of obtaining her Doctorate degree in nursing at Vanderbilt University. Barbora is also a clinical faculty at the University of North Georgia.
Whether hiking, jogging, swimming, or traveling, Barbora loves to spend time with her husband, John, her three adult children, and her two Shih Tzus, Dixie and Molli.
Marianne Hoepfner, CNM
Marianne is a transplant to Georgia from her hometown of Milwaukee. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and studied in the midwifery program at Marquette University.
Marianne is thrilled to be in the beautiful climate of Georgia with her husband, Steven. The rest of her family still resides in Wisconsin, her oldest, Zachary, an attorney, is married with one son, her daughter, Erin, is married with three girls (All caught by Grandma!) and followed in her Mom’s footsteps in becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.
